ProtectEd Solutions LLC began while one of the company’s co-founders and CEO, Master Sergeant (Ret.) Pete Facchini served as a member of the U.S. Army’s elite 75th Ranger Regiment. On April 16th, 2007, Pete was notified of the ongoing Virginia Tech shooting massacre. Over the next several days, Pete learned that many of the victims were trapped in dorms and classrooms with no way to safely barricade themselves. As an expert Special Operations breacher, Pete knew he could develop a product that was capable of protecting lives and preventing even the most experienced active shooter from taking innocent lives. Thus, the idea "Protecting Education" (ProtectEd) was born.
Five more deployments to the Middle East and family life forced Pete to delay the production of his idea. However, on December 14th, 2012, while serving on an exchange program with one of Great Britain’s Elite Special Operation Units, Pete learned of the Sandy Hook Massacre. As a husband of a teacher and father of three, Pete began to view the problem through a personal lens. He had the knowledge and idea to help prevent or mitigate these tragedies. Upon returning home from his assignment, Pete teamed up with his childhood friend, Tim Cahalin, who was running a successful custom design architecture firm (Official LLC) in Brooklyn, New York. Together, they immediately began work on creating bullet-resistant classroom products that would prevent school shootings of that magnitude from happening again. Understanding the implications of militarizing a classroom, Pete and Tim developed products that had practical applications, were simple to use and blended into the classroom environment so that students would not be reminded of the potential danger of an active shooter. Their hard work payed off and they developed what is now the ProtectEd bullet-resistant bookcase.
In late 2019, Jake Ahle and Tom Ankenbauer, former U.S. Army Infantry Captains and Rangers who met Pete while they were assigned to the Asymmetric Warfare Group, joined the team. ProtectEd Solutions was finally incorporated in Georgia in early 2020 as a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business.
